My boy is 10 years old now and we think we should go back to HK after he completed his bachelor degree. Because it is very limited career opportunity in Australia and I don't want him to be a junior clerical worker for the rest of his life. As a native English speaker, I think he got more career opportunity in HK.
I don't know other child but my boy is very very lazy and he only spends 10 minutes(occasionally up to 20 minutes) a day on homework or study. He got sport either basketball or badminton everyday except Friday. He is Year 5 now but he is learning Year 9 Maths at home. It is obvious that all of us are so relax and don't need to worry about his study compared with the child in HK.
However, we need to be well prepared if we want to go back after 10 years. The key problem is we need to have somewhere to live in HK. I hope I can buy a small apartment in HK in next few years if the HK property market can drop to a more reasonable price.
My conclusion is "We come to Australia because of our child. We also go back because of them"
I am happy for my son to stay in Australia if he can find a good job. However, I find that many children of our friends even can't find a job and then go to study a master degree. It seems to me that it makes them more harder to get a job because they are over-educated before they find their first job.
If my son find a junior clerical job in the CBD and he needs to spend one and half hour to go to work in the morning and spend another one and half hour to come home, he only earn A$50k a year and definitely I will force(convince) him to go back to HK.
Actually, we also want to go back to HK because we have NO excuse to stay in Australia anymore after my son grow up and independent. It is really bored in Australia.
